The current version of Workshop Software is DOS based.  It will only work with printers that can print to DOS applications.
If your printer is a WINTYPE printer that uses your hardware and Windows to do most of its work, it is probable you won't be able to print from Workshop software (or other DOS applications)

All our software will work with most Epson, NEC, Star, Brother, OKI and Hewlett Packard printers, but we make no guarantees.

Printing problems with HP Deskjet and Laser printers (and hopefully the solution)

All HP deskjet and laser printers use inbuilt fonts for printing in DOS applications.

Windows applications use the Windows printer drivers and over-ride these.

All CAMS software uses the DOS method for changing fonts.

Consequently only the fonts that come with the printer can be used.

To select the correct font and other printing characteristics in CAMS software the following guidelines should be understood; changes can only be made in the printers setup option

The following is an example for setting the printer into 12 pitch for printing invoices;

<ESC>10U<ESC>(s0p12h12v0s3b1T

<ESC>10U - selects a symbol set such as PC-8 which has graphics and line drawing characters

<ESC>(s0p - 0 = fixed pitch / 1 = proportional pitch - should be 0 so columns line up

12h - characters per inch or pitch - must be available with the selected font and typeface for other pitches eg. 10, 16.67 or 24 change this number

12v - point size ie. the height or size of the font - must be available in font change to suit the pitch ie. the higher the pitch number the smaller the point size eg. 12h12v - 8h16.67v - 16.67h8v

0s - print style - 0 = upright / 1 = italic

3b - font weight ie. how dark the print is - 0 = normal / 3 = bold / 6 = very dark

1T - typeface ie what the print style looks like - must be available in printer eg. 0 = lineprinter / 5 = times roman / 4102 = letter gothic

As each printer has different inbuilt fonts and typefaces, the various combinations of the above need to be adjusted to suit the printer and software.

Problems with page length on 600 series printers

 We are advising our customers to send the following initialization string to the printer to set page length and number of lines of text to print.

<ESC>&l1l72p66F<ESC>(10U<ESC>(s0p12h12v0s0b6T

l1l = lower case L number 1 lower case L

0 = number 0 not letter o

Unfortunately this forces a page to eject from the printer before beginning printing on the next page.

The page length and all other formatting are correct.

In most cases the page eject is not a problem, however some clients use special paper/card for printing and leave plain paper in the printer and manually feed the special paper at the time of printing. When it simply ejects the page, this causes some frustration.

We can solve the problem by removing 72p (page length) using the following codes;

<ESC>&l1l66F<ESC>(10U<ESC>(s0p12h12v0s0b6T

However, this then only allows 63 lines of text to be printed on a page, cutting off the bottom inch or so of the form, which is needed for printing a tearoff receipt.

We are still attempting to solve the problem with HP.
