or the Millenium Bug : Don’t get Bitten

Get a web site and get ahead at Camsoft Update 5.2 : Modem Support : End of Month We are fast approaching the end of the millennium. We have already written about this in a prior issue of "The CAMS Sheet". We are concerned that many of our customers have not taken the necessary precautions to protect their businesses from, not only hardware but also software non-compliance as far as Y2K (Year 2000) incompatibilities. PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE FOLLOWING: The only fully Y2K compliant version of Workshop Manager, Apprentice and Easy is 5.2.You can see your current version of Workshop on the bottom of the main Menu screen. If you do not have this version you need to contact us ASAP to arrange for an upgrade. As from the 1st October 1999, the price of upgrading will be: Workshop Manager $195.00
This disk will check your start-up hardware (the CMOS) for correct date rollover to the year 2000. It will also check for correct handling of leap years. Any minor problems will be automatically corrected by the software. If it reports any major problems, contact us for more details. To order the test disk or the software upgrades, send an order with a cheque for the full amount plus $5 post and handling to CAMS.
According to the Microsoft Web Site, Windows 95 is not fully compliant! Windows 98B is the only version that is fully compliant. There are however, software "patches" that are able to rectify Windows 95 Y2K non-compliance. Here is something you could do after hours . . . If you are familiar with the BIOS section of your computer, you can change the date to the 1st of January 2000. You can then start up Windows and run any Microsoft Office applications, such as Word and Excel to make sure that they are handling dates correctly. You could also run Internet Explorer and Outlook or Outlook Express as well. DON’T START UP ANY ACCOUNTING PROGRAMS OR WORKSHOP MANAGER!If you would prefer, CAMS can help you regarding these issues and also perform the necessary checks and upgrades necessary to facilitate a smooth transition into the year 2000. Our rates for specific Year 2000 consultancy are currently $120/hr. Our rates will increase as the 31st December 1999 draws nearer. Please don’t leave these issues until the last week of December. ACT NOW!! We will be busy dealing with clients who are having problems because they didn’t plan ahead. Don’t be one of them.

By having John on board, we believe that we will be able to provide you with a better response time to your queries and problems.
Don’t be caught scratching your head on the 30th of June 2000 trying to sort out GST issues. Most accountants are giving seminars to their clients to brief them on the impact of the GST. If your accountant has not advised you of information nights etc, then contact him and ask him about it. Here at CAMS we will be developing the necessary upgrade to deal with the GST. The normal upgrade prices will apply unless you are on support contract with us. Then the upgrade will be provided to you as a part of your contract with CAMS. Do you have a device called a modem sitting between your computer and a phone line? If you do we can provide you with the necessary software so we can dial into your computer. We are often able to fix data problems and other computer issues, including training via the modem connection. If you don’t have a modem, you will generally be up for a site visit at $100 per hour plus travel time. CAMS can provide you with a fast 56k modem for around $150. You can either install the modem and our communication software yourself, or we can install it all for you and provide training at the rates current at the time. And if you want Internet, we’ll connect you at the same time. We regularly get calls from clients at the end of the month. Many of them relate to the message "Aging of General Ledger has not been completed". This message means that you have not done the end of month for the ledger AFTER doing the end of month for customers, suppliers and parts.Please make sure that you follow the Workshop Manager checklist for the correct processing of end of month. You must follow the order of tasks as shown on the checklist!! You can save yourself a lot of time and expense by following this sheet. A new one is enclosed with this newsletter in case yours is lost.
